Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase the yield of 8-hydroxycymene useful as intermediates of musk fragrance and to control the production of cymene as by-product by proceeding dehydrogenation in the vapour phase at higher temp. than the former technology.
CONSTITUTION: The catalytic conversion in the vapour phase of 8- hydroxymenthenes into 8-hydroxycymenes is carried out with an alkaline dehydrogenation catalyst such as palladium supported with an alkaline carrier at ≥145°C.
