PURPOSE: To enhance metal resistance, by drying a mixture consisting of zeolite and alumina/magnesia and subsequently washing the same with a weak acidic aqueous solution with pH 2W6 containing ammonium salt or/and salt of a rare earth element.
CONSTITUTION: 3W40wt% of crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite and 60W97wt% of alumina/magnesia are mixed and, after the resulting mixture was dried or dried and baked, said mixture is washed with a weak acidic aqueous solution of ammonium salt with pH 2W6, a weak acidic aqueous solution of salt of a rare earth element with pH 2W6 or a mixture thereof to prepare a hydrocarbon converting catalyst. The aforementioned washing is performed by such a method that the mixture of zeolite and alumina/magnesia is immersed in the aforementioned aqueous solution at 0W100°C, pref., at 25W70°C for 10minW5 hr under stirring or the aforementioned aqueous solution is flowed through the dried and baked mixture consisting of zeolite and alumina/magnesia.
