Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin having bright shade and high setting speed in molding, by using a reaction product prepared by heating an orthomethylol phenol and an oily or waxy cyclopentadiene polymer as a raw material.
CONSTITUTION: (i) An orthomethylol phenol is reacted with (ii) an oily or waxy cyclopentadiene polymer (preferably homo- or copolymer containing ≥40wt% cyclopentadiene monomer) under heating preferably at 110W140°C for 1W4hr to give (A) a reaction product, which is, if necessary, blended with (B) a phenol compound (e.g., phenol, etc.) and (C) an aldehyde compound (e.g., formaldehyde, etc.), and these raw materials are condensed in the presence of an acid or alkali catalyst, to give the desired resin.
