PURPOSE: To industrially obtain a perfluorinated carbonyl fluoride useful as a various intermediate by oligomerizing hexafluoropropene oxide in the presence of a combination of an alkali metal fluoride with a carboxylic acid dinitrile and a specified ether as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Hexafluoropropene oxide is oligomerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising an alkali metal fluoride, preferably potassium fluoride, a carboxylic acid dinitrile, preferably adiponitrile and an ether of formula I (where 2≤x≤6), preferably tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether to obtain the objective perfluorinated carbonyl fluorides of formula II. The pref. amt. of the alkali metal fluoride in the catalyst is 2-30 wt.%, that of the carboxylic acid dinitrile is 50-95 wt.% and that of the ether is 2-50 wt.%. The reaction temp. is preferably -20 to +100°C. The products are suitable for use in the preparation of perfluoro-polyethers, fluorinated plastics, perfluorinated vinyl ethers, etc.
