Abstract:
To provide an obstipation preventing or improving agent formed out of a natural material and safe.
This obstipation preventing or improving agent contains β-1,3-1,6-D-glucan, wherein the β-1,3-1,6-D-glucan is derived from a microorganism belonging to the Aureobasidium species, has two of signals of 4.7 ppm and 4.5 ppm in a1H NMR spectrum of a solution in which a 1N sodium hydroxide heavy water solution is used as a solvent, and further has a viscosity of not more than 200 cP (mPa×s) when measured as an aqueous solution having a concentration of 0.5 (w/v%) at 30°C and a pH of 5.0. The obstipation preventing or improving agent produces an remarkable effect on the persistent obstipation of a patient to whom morphine is administered.
