Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance a printing capacity, by a method wherein, whether a space column continuously exists beyond a predeterminedly fixed range is judged, and according to the result of the judgement an action speed in a carriage drive and an element drive is changed. CONSTITUTION:When printing data for one line transferred from a host device is developed in an image buffer 18 and stored therein, a retrieval means 22 retrieves a space column not contributing to a dot pattern forming with respect to the printing data stored in the image buffer 18. A comparison and judgement means 24 judges whether the space column continuously exists beyond a predeterminedly fixed range or not. After the judgement data is issued and registered in a register 26 and the aforesaid processing is completed with respect to the printing data for one line, the judgement data registered in the register 26 is issued to a printing speed control means 28 of a next step. The printing speed control means 28 sets a travel speed of a carriage drive means 41 and a printing element cycle period of an element drive means 16, a printing speed is set, and a printing for one line is carried out.
