PURPOSE: To correct bad printing due to omission of dot by a method wherein, when operation is not possible, printing is performed only by means of a dot drive element able to be driven and a sheet is moved so that said element is put on a line on which printing has not been completed to perform printing.
CONSTITUTION: In the event of breakage of a pin, a CPU 4 decides a pin able to print based on the information from a pin breakage recognition unit 12 and informs it to a printing control unit 10, so that printing is performed without actuating the broken pin. In a pass, a sheet is fed and a pin able to perform printing is put on a line on which printing has not been completed to perform printing. The CPU 4 calculates a position where the pin able to print is put most frequently on said line. Next, a direction of pass line feed and amount of feed are calculated, which is informed to a feed control unit 6 to effect pass line feed, following which information about replacement of pin and printing pin information are informed to the unit 10 so that the line which has not been printed due to breakage of pin is printed by the pin able to print. By repeating correction printing, all printing is completed.
