To generate hydraulic cushion simply between a sleeve and a roller, supporting the sleeve, by a method wherein a machine frame is provided with an orifice, aligned with a connecting unit, and the roller is moved into the axial direction thereof so as to connect the orifice to the connecting unit air- tightly.
An intermediate pipe piece 3 is attached to a shaft journal 2, forming a roller core, and the intermediate pipe piece 3 is connected to an axial bore 4 and a horizontal bore 5 communicated with the surface of the intermediate pipe piece 3, while the bore 4 is equipped with a connecting unit 10 at the fore side thereof. On the other hand, a cantilever supporting body 11 in a machine frame is provided with a horizontal bore hole part 14 and a bore 13, which are aligned with the connecting unit 10 of the bore hole 4. In this case, the shaft journal 2 is moved into lateral direction and the connecting unit 10 is engaged air-tightly with the bore part 14 in order to fit the block supporting sleeve 7 to the intermediate pipe piece 3 or release the same from the intermediate pipe piece 3. Subsequently, compressed air is supplied to the bores 4, 5 through the bores 13, 14 and the connecting unit 12.
