Title:
PROCESS FOR OXIDIZING POLYETHYLENE WAX
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH1180252
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to inhibit the formation of high-molecular-weight by-products and the formation of deposits inside the reactor by oxidizing a polyethylene wax produced by using a metallocene catalyst with oxygen or an oxygenous gas in a molten state. in the presence of a monobasic or polybasic inorganic acid or carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: The monobasic or polybasic carboxylic acid used is a 1-6C monobasic carboxylic acid or a 2-6C polybasic carboxylic acid. The polyethylene wax suitably used is a homopolymer of ethylene or a copolymer of ethylene with an α-olefin. Desirably, it is a homopolymer of ethylene or a copolymer of ethylene with propene or 1-butene. The reaction temperature is particularly desirably 140-170 deg.C. The pressure is desirably 1-3 bar. Among the inorganic acids, phosphoric acid is desirable, and among the carboxylic acids, a monocarboxylic acid, particularly acetic acid or propionic acid is desirable. The acid is used in an amount of 0.01-1 wt.% based on the wax.
