To provide a process for producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate capable of efficiently producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate by a transesterification reaction between 1,4-butanediol and (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester, and efficiently recovering a transesterification catalyst to reuse it.
In a process for producing 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate by a transesterification reaction between 1,4-butanediol and (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester, the transesterification reaction between 1,4-butanediol and (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester is carried out in the presence of a transesterification catalyst represented by formula (I) (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-18C alkyl group, a 6-12C aryl group, or a 7-12C aralkyl group; X is an alkali metal atom or an alkaline earth metal atom; and n is the valence of X).
