Abstract:
PURPOSE:To increase the fatigue strength of a crank shaft by providing a repeated tensile load ranging from zero to the plastic deformation zone for a prescribed time at a prescribed frequency along the journal shaft center so as to provide an uniform residual stress at the pinfillet part. CONSTITUTION:The end of flywheel fitting part 5 of a crank shaft 1 is fixed to a level block 6, and a gear side end part 7 is fixed to a ball joint coupling 8, and then the coupling 8 is connected to a tensile load machine. Accordingly, it follows that a tensile load is acted by the ball joint coupling 8 along the shaft center of journals 2. The tensile stress ranging from zero to the value sigmamax in which plastic deformation is caused at a pinfillet part 4 is applied to the fillet part 4 at a frequency of about 50Hz by a tensile load machine. And, the time in which a repeated load is added is approximately 1-3min, and at the time the repeated load is added so that the strain at the fillet part 4 which is nearest to the flywheel becomes to be 3X10<-3> or more.
