PURPOSE: To effectively clean out a fixing component depositing on a silver halide photographic sensitive material in the fixing process by incorporating a mesoionic compd. into a fixing bath and incorporating a carboxylic acid except for acetic acid into the fixing bath.

CONSTITUTION: The fixing bath contains at least one mesoionic compd. by ≥0.1mol/l, and at least one carboxylic acid except for acetic acid. The mesoionic compd. is a polar org. compd. which can not be expressed by general covalent bond formula but expressed by formula. In the formula, Z is a five- or six-member ring consisting of carbon atoms, oxygen atoms, etc., and X- represents -O-, -S- or -N- (R), wherein R is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group.
