PURPOSE: To eliminate defects after processing in an automatic processing machine.
CONSTITUTION: In order to eliminate defects after processing, an image is formed in an X-ray photographic material for silver halide industry having at least one gelatin-silver halide emulsion layer and at least one nonphotosensitive protective stress preventing coating on at least one side of the substrate and contg. silver halide corresponding to 6-20g silver nitrate per 1m2 on one side. The material further contains at least one kind of polyoxyalkylene compd. as a surfactant and a hardening agent other than a vinylsulfone compd., preferably formaldehyde in at least one of the hydrophilic layers. After direct exposure with X-rays, the material is fed into an automatic processing machine, wherein it is successively subjected to development in a developing soln. contg. at least one kind of anionic alkylphenoxypolyalkylene oxyphosphate ester surfactant, fixation in a fixing soln. optionally contg. at least one kind of α-ketocarboxylic acid, washing and drying.
