Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing a 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid ester from acetone cyanhydrin in one pot and high yield.
CONSTITUTION: Acetone cyanhydrin of formula I is made to react with an alcohol of formula ROH (R is lower alkyl) and a hydrogen halide and the reactional product is hydrolyzed to obtain the objective 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid ester of formula II.
