To provide a production process for an acetylene alcohol that differs from the conventional process using liquid ammonia and can be carried out under mild conditions using a minimized amount of alkali metal hydroxide without adverse effect on the environment.
The reactants, acetylene and a ketone bearing a -CH2-CO-CH2 group, and the reaction solvent are used at a relatively molar ratio of 1.0/(0.2-3.0)/(1.0-4.0) are heated at 20-50°C under a pressure of 10-30 kg/cm2 and treated with an anionic ion exchange resin at the LHSV=0.1-5.0 defined as the volume of the reactants to be treated with the unit volume of the anionic ion-exchange resin per hour to effect the ethynylation reaction between acetylene and a ketone thereby continuously producing the corresponding acetylene alcohol in high conversion and high reaction selectivity.
