Title:
PRODUCTION OF ACICULAR TITANIUM DIOXIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02239119
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily produce the acicular TiO2 having uniform grain size by wet-mixing a Ti source, an alkali metal source and a hydrogen phosphate compd. into a slurry, spray-drying the slurry and then calcining the obtained material.

CONSTITUTION: A TiO2 sol contg. > 80wt.% TiO2 as the Ti source, NaCl as the alkali metal source and the powder of a Na phosphate such as Na2HPO4 and NaH2PO4 as the hydrogen phosphate compd. are wet-mixed with water into a slurry. In this case, the weight ratio of the TiO2 to alkali metal is controlled to 1:0.03-1:7 and that of the TiO2 to the P in the hydrogen phosphate compd. to 1:0.005-1:1. The slurry is spray-dried into powder. The powder is calcined at 700-1000°C, charged into water, filtered, washed and redried. Consequently, acicular TiO2 having uniform length is produced in good yield by this simple method.
