Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a casting having unidirectional structure without containing any impurity by slowly shifting while locally melting after preheating an active metal or its alloy powder supplied into a mold and cooling from the down part.

CONSTITUTION: The raw material powder 7 composed of the active metal of Ti, Ti alloy, etc., is charged into an alumina-made mold 3. This raw material powder 7 is preheated with an induction heating coil 1 through a graphite exothermic body 2 and held to this temp. Next, it is locally melted with the induction heating coil 4 at meeting part in the melting zone 8. By this method, the produced molten metal is cooled with a water cooled copper cooling base 5 providing water cooled coil 6, to develop columnar crystal 9. Under this condition, while slowly descending the water cooled copper cooled base 5 and the mold 3, the unidirectional structure is developed. By this method, mixing of the impurity from the mold 3 is only a little and the active metal casting having good surface and unidirectional structure is obtd.
