Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce an aldehyde, by recovering rhodium from a waste catalyst solution and recycling rhodium as a catalyst again in hydroformylation reaction of an olefin using a rhodium complex as a catalyst.
SOLUTION: In this method for producing an aldehyde by hydroformylating a compound containing an olefinic unsaturated bond with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium complex in a nonaqueous medium, (1) a rhodium-containing solution is separated from a hydroformylation reaction process, (2) the rhodium-containing solution is oxidized in the presence of an aqueous medium containing a promoter to extract rhodium in a water phase, (3) the water phase is separated from an organic phase, (4) the water phase containing rhodium is brought into contact with an organic solvent containing a water-insoluble tertiary organic phosphorus compound in the presence of carbon monoxide arid hydrogen to extract rhodium in the organic solvent, (5) separated into the organic phase containing the rhodium-tertiary organic phosphorus compound complex and a water phase and (6) the organic phase is recycled to a hydroformylation process.
