Abstract:

To suppress the production of a high-boiling by-product, prevent the catalyst activity from deteriorating and produce the subject compound useful as a raw material, etc., for plasticizers by reacting a conjugated alkadiene with water in the presence of CO2 under specific conditions using palladium and an organophosphorus compound as the catalyst.

A conjugated alkadiene is reacted with water in the presence of CO2 using palladium and an organophosphorus compound as a catalyst to provide a reactional product solution containing alkadienols having a skeleton of the dimerized conjugated alkadiene. The molar ratio of the carboxylic acid to the palladium in the reaction product solution is 1-8 to carry out the reaction. After recovering the alkadienols from the reactional product solution, a liquid containing the remaining catalyst is reused for the reaction.
