Title:
PRODUCTION OF AROMATIC SULFUR COMPOUND
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3794858
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic thiol compound in a high yield by reacting a specific aromatic thioether compound with a Lewis acid and then hydrolyzing the reaction product.
SOLUTION: This method for producing (C) an aromatic thiol compound of the formula: Yn-Ar-(SH)m comprises reacting (A) an aromatic thioether compound of the formula: Yn-Ar-(SR)m [Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon residue; Y is a halogen, nitro or the like which is bound to the carbon atom of the aromatic ring in Ar; R is a monovalent secondary or tertiary hydrocarbon or the like: (m) is ≥1; (n) is ≥0] with (B) a Lewis acid (for example, aluminum trichloride or titanium tetrachloride) in a solvent such as methylene chloride or chloroform preferably at a temp. from room temperature to 200°C and then hydrolyzing the reaction product preferably with an excessive amount of cold water and/or water. In the reaction, the component B is preferably used in an amount of 0.01-3 moles per mole of the component A.
