To obtain an asphalt mixture having good characteristics while controlling the usage of asphalt by dry mixing a heated aggregate with a specified amount of a thermoplastic material and a filler, and then wet mixing this mixture with a specified amount of asphalt.
An aggregate is heated to a temperature which is at least equal to the heat distortion temperature of a plastic material and at which the mixture will not suffer thermal deterioration after mixing. The high-temperature aggregate thus heated is dry mixed with a plastic material and a filler. An asphalt melted by heating is injected into this mixture, and mixing is continued by wet mixing. The amount of the plastic material blended for substituting a part of the aggregate is determined so as to be 1-6vol.% of the entire mixture. The designed quantity of asphalt thus obtained is equal to or about O.5% less than those in the case of the conventional asphalt mixtures containing no plastic material.
