Title:
PRODUCTION OF BENZOPHENONE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6178747
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: A catalyst containing at least one selected from oxides of V, Vo, W, Pb, and Ti is used to effect a vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of readily available 1, 1-diphenylethane with molecular oxygen whereby benzophenone is obtained in high yield.

CONSTITUTION: In the production of benzophenone by vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of 1,1-diphenylethane with a gas containing molecular oxygen, a catalyst containing, as active components, at least one, preferably 2 or more selected from oxides of vanadium such as vanadium pentoxide, molybdenum such as molybdenum trioxide, tungsten such as tungsten trioxide, titanium such as titanium dioxide and lead such as lead monoxide is used.

EFFECT: This process facilitate the purification of the product.

USE: Industrially useful substance such as perfume immobilizer, polymerization inhibitor, ultraviolet absorbent or photopolymerization initiator.
