PURPOSE: To stably produce bisphenol A for a long period by preventing a distillation apparatus used for production of bisphenol A from crack due to stress and corrosion.
CONSTITUTION: In the method for producing bisphenol A, comprising a reaction process for obtaining a reaction mixture containing bisphenol A by supplying acetone and an excess phenol into a reactor containing an acidic cation exchange resin and then reacting acetone with the excess phenol, a process for separating a low-boiling point material consisting essentially of acetone and water from the reaction mixture, a process for recovering bisphenol A from flow consisting essentially of phenol and bisphenol A, as at least part of materials of a distillation tower and condenser used in the process for separating low-boiling point material consisting essentially of acetone and water from the reaction mixture, a SUS317 (JIS G4304)-based austenite stainless steel composed of 18-25% chromium, 20-30% nickel, 3-6% molybdenum and ≤0.03% carbon is used.
