Abstract:
To obtain a block copolymer of a polybutadiene block and a polystyrene block showing a narrow molecular weight distribution in a mixed alkane/ cycloalkane solvent.
A lithium compound is used as a polymerization initiator and a first polystyrene block is formed on and stuck to a small homopolybutadiene block. Consequently the copolymer can be dispersed into a mixture of an alkane and 15-60 wt.% of a cycloalkane, preferably a mixture of hexane and cyclohexane. After the dispersant and the first styrene block are produced, the remaining monomer to be fed is added to an aliphatic hydrocarbon, preferably hexane or industrial hexane as a diluent and the polymerization is carried out in a mixed solvent.
