PURPOSE: To produce a carbonaceous filter plate or pipe in which mechanical strength is made large and both pore diameter and permeability can be regulated by curing a cellulosic sheet impregnated with thermosetting resin or a substance wherein the sheet has been wound on the outer peripheral surface of a core material and thereafter calcining the sheet or the substance.
CONSTITUTION: Thermosetting resin such as phenol resin and furan resin is dissolved in methanol, acetone and toluene, etc. A cellulosic sheet such as filter paper and kraft paper is immersed in this solution, and impregnated therewith and thereafter precured at the prescribed temp. This sheet is placed on a graphite plate or wound on a core material or furthermore laminated and cured and then calcined at the temp. not lower than 800°C in the nonoxidizing atmosphere. The obtained carbonaceous filter plate or pipe is excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength and chemical resistance and required pore diameter and permeability can be regulated by regulating the impregnated amount and the filter plate or pipe can be utilized for precision filtration and ultrafiltration.
