Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain in high yield the subject compound useful as e.g. an intermediate for medicines, etc., by reaction of itaconic acid in the presence of specific microbes.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound can be obtained by reaction of itaconic acid in the presence of microbes (or a treated product thereof) capable of producing S(+)-citramalic acid from itaconic acid, belonging to Alcaligenes [e.g. Alcaligenes denitrificans MCI2775 (FERM P-13192)].
