Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a synthetic rubber latex suitable as an ABS resin stock, predominant in butadiene consisting of spherical particles of large size, in a short polymerization time. CONSTITUTION:In emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture containing >=65wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated diene compound monomer, the polymerization is initiated using 0.5-5 pts.wt., among 100 pts.wt. of the whole monomer, of a vinyl cyanide compound in the presence of 0.5-1.5 pts.wt. of an emulsifier. Despite low level of the emulsifier, the polymerization starts smoothly, and with the advance of the polymerization, agglomeration develops, thus obtaining the objective synthetic rubber latex containing butadiene particles 0.25-0.5mu in size in a short time.
