Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce efficiently and economically crude copper phthalocyanine having a distinct hue by thermally reacting phthalic arthydride with urea in the presence of a catalyst and reacting the product with copper or its compd. without isolating the product.

CONSTITUTION: Crude copper phthalocyanine is produced by thermally reacting phthalic anhydride or its deriv. with urea or its deriv. in the presence of a catalyst in the presence or absence of an org. solvent and adding copper or its compd. alone or together with urea or its deriv. to the reaction system to react the above reaction product with copper or its deriv. without isolating the reaction product. The addition of urea or its deriv. at the latter step improves the yield of the phthalocyanine. Since a metallic material having high mechanical strengths and abrasion resistance is now usable, a dispersing machine such as a kneader or a ball mill, usually used in the physical pigment- making step, can be used as a reaction vessel, and thus the synthesis and pigment making in the same vessel becomes possible.
