Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a friction material free from the segregation of materials and prevented from dust generation by mixing a specified amt. of a specific substance with raw materials including a fibrous substrate material, a friction- controlling agent, a filler, and a binder resin, then heating, pressing, and molding the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a friction material by mixing raw materials including a fibrous substrate material selected among org., inorg., and metallic fibers (e.g. glass fiber), a friction-controlling agent (e.g. graphite), a filler (e.g. calcium hydroxide), and a binder resin (e.g. a straight resin), then heating, pressing, and molding the resulting mixture, wherein an aq. phenol resin soln. of 2-20wt.% concn. is mixed with the raw materials in such an amt. that the amt. of water contained in the soln. is 10-50 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. the sum of raw materials.
