Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce large-sized and homogeneous glass by polishing or grinding dry gel or the surface part of a porous body obtained by heating it in a sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:A sol soln. obtained by hydrolyzing one or more kinds of metal alkoxide is allowed to gel and wet gel is produced. This is dried to obtain dry gel and the dry gel is heated to produce a porous body and thereafter a glass body is obtained by sintering this porous body. In this method, the above-mentioned dry gel or the surface part of the porous body is polished and ground. Thereby impurities such as metal ions which have penetrated and stuck on the dry gel or the vicinity of the surface of the porous body are removed and homogeneous glass is obtained.
