Title:
PRODUCTION OF HIGH STRENGTH AND HIGH TOUGHNESS RAIL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3802604
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a rail excellent in strength and toughness, at the time of producing a rail for a railway, by executing hot finish rolling and heat treatment under specified temp. conditions.
SOLUTION: At the time of producing a rail by subjecting a steel for a rail to hot rolling, in the finish rolling stage after rough rolling, finish rolling for one or plural passes is executed at ≥20% draft per pass so as to regulate the temp. of the rail head to come in direct contact with a wheel to the range of 1050 to 900°C. Successively, the rail after the hot fisnihing is rapidly cooled to 950 to 700°C at a cooling rate of ≥4°C/s to suppress the growth of austenitic grains, is held to the same temp. for 0.5 to 10min and is subjected to accelerated cooling to the temp. range of ≤600°C at a cooling rate of 2 to 15°C/s to form the structure of the rail head into fine pearlite, by which the rail excellent in strength and toughness can be produced.
