PURPOSE: To produce lightweight pigment coated paper excellent in print quality of both sides of coated paper, particularly excellent in gloss.
CONSTITUTION: In producing pigment coated paper in which pigment coated layer of 1.5-10g/m per side is provided on the one side (surface A) or both sides (surfaces A and B) of support having 27-60g/m2 absolute dry basis weight, a support having 2-8wt.% water content is pressed to one or more sets of calendering device composed of an elastic roll having 60-88 shore D hardness and a metallic roll before a coating device for the surface A or/and the surface B, to subject the support to smoothing treatment and as necessary, one side or both sides of the resultant coated paper is subjected to supercalendering treatment.
