PURPOSE: To simply and inexpensively produce an Li based thin sheet of a specified thickness by adding Mg in a molten Li bath to be made to an alloy and then to a solid and passing it between steel cylinders in a prescribed number of times at a room temp. for rolling.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy is obtained by adding Mg in a molten Li bath. The alloy preferably contains 10-50 atom% of Mg. The alloy is solidified, the solid of the obtained alloy is extruded and is made to a shape suitable for rolling by machining, etc. A stock formed is passed through steel cylinders several times at a room temp. to be made to a min. thickness of 10μm. The rolling is preferably conducted in dry air or dry Ar. In this case, when the initial thickness of the stock is large, the alloy is preferably subjected to annealing to prevent generation of edge defect after at least one time rolling. By this method, a thin Li based sheet suitable for a cathode plate for battery is obtained.
