PURPOSE: To produce a diagonally oriented magnetic recording medium while using a solenoid coil for longitudinal orientation as it is without improvement.

CONSTITUTION: When a magnetic coating film contg. acicular magnetic powder is formed as a magnetic layer to produce a magnetic recording medium, the acicular magnetic powder is diagonally oriented by passing the magnetic coating film through a certain position within the range from the top of the magnetic recording medium running part of a solenoid coil 1 to 1/3 of the length L from the top to the bottom of the running part or the range from the bottom to 1/3 of the length L.
