Abstract:

PURPOSE: To aim reduction in cost an improvement in operation efficiency in production of a parent material of glass, by feeding a glass rod continuously, and depositing a glass layer on its outer periphery.

CONSTITUTION: The rotatable drawing machines 1, 2, and 3 are set in the traveling direction of the glass rod 4. The oxyhydrogen burner 8 is set between the front drawing machines 1 and 2, and the reactor 9 and the glass forming device 9 are set between the rear drawing machines 2 and 3. When the connecting part of the glass rod 4 reaches the burner 8, the burner 8 is transferred while jetting oxyhydrogen flame. The continuous glass rod 4 connected by melting is pulled by the drawing machines 2 and 3, and sent to the reactor 9. The outer periphery of the glass rod is sprayed with fine particles of glass in the reaction chamber 9a, and the porous glass layer 11 for clad is synthesized and piled. Then, the glass rod is fed to the glass making device 10, heated in the heating chamber 10a, and made into transparent glass. Production of the parent material for optical glass is automatized by this process.
