Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the metal-base composite material having high strength and wear resistance by preheating reinforcing particles, impregnating a base metal between the particles under pressurization, adjusting the volume content of the reinforcing particles, and remelting the metal to uniformly stir and disperse the reinforcing particles, then casting the molten metal.

CONSTITUTION: The reinforcing particles 1 which are weighed to a prescribed weight and preheated to a prescribed temp. are packed into a die 2 and the molten base metal 3 is impregnated therebetween under pressurization. The impregnation under the pressurization is executed by a plunger 4 from above the die 2 at this time and the execution of the impregnation by die casting and molten metal forging is equally well. The resulted composite 5 is eventually formed with the composite part 1a by the local presence of the reinforcing particles. The composite 5 is then inserted into a crucible 6. The base metal 3a is put therein in order to adjust the volume content of the reinforcing particles at this time and is heated to melt by a heater 6a. The molten composite material 5a is stirred. Mechanical stirring, electromagnetic stirring, etc., are adopted for the stirring. The composite soln. 5a is cast to a product shape by gravity casting, die casting, precision casting, etc., after the end of the stirring.
