Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a polyether by using an initiator having low molecular weight. CONSTITUTION:Glycerol is converted to potassium alcoholate and subjected to ring-opening polymerization with propylene oxide and the produced polymer having a molecular weight of 1,500 is neutralized with 1.01 equivalent (based on the alkali) of sulfuric acid and dehydrated. A composite metal cyanide complex catalyst is added to the product without removing excess acid and produced salt and propylene oxide is subjected to ring-opening polymerization in the presence of the product to obtain a polyether polyol having a molecular weight of 10,000. The polymer is easily producible because the removal of excess acid and produced salt after the neutralization is unnecessary.
