Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely set the average pore diameter and the rate of perforation of the surface of a membrane and to obtain a polysulfone separation membrane having excellent fractioning performance by dissolving a polysulfone resin in a polar org. solvent, pouring and stretching the resultant soln. and dipping it in an aq.soln. of a surfactant.
SOLUTION: A homogeneous polysulfone soln. is prepd. by mixing 14 pts.wt. polysulfone with 19 pts.wt. polyethylene glycol having an average mol.wt. of 570-630 and 67 pts.wt N,N-dimethylformamide at 70°C. The polysulfone soln. is cooled to 25°C, poured and stretched on a glass substrate and after being cast in a uniform thickness (200 μm) by using a doctor knife set in a casting thickness 200 μm, immediately dipped in a solidifying agent to produce the objective polysulfone separation membrane as a solidified flat membrane. Pure water or an aq.soln. of sodium dodecylsulfate having 0.5, 1.5 or 3.0 g/l concn. is used as the solidifying soln. The average pore diameter of the surface of the membrane is max. and varies when the concn. of the aq.soln. is 0.5 g/l as shown by the diagram.
