Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a propylene glycol antifreeze, containing an alkali metallic silicate and improved in gelation resistance.
SOLUTION: This method for producing a propylene glycol-containing antifreeze composition comprises (a) a step for mixing an alkali metallic silicate with a basic inorganic compound and water so as to provide about <0.25 molar ratio (SiO2:M2O) of silica to an alkali metallic oxide, forming a silicate premix, adding an effective amount of water thereto, regulating water in the silicate premix to at least about 60wt.% and thereby preventing a get from forming when adding the silicate premix to the propylene glycol and (b) a step for adding the silicate premix in the step (a) to the propylene glycol in the method for producing the propylene glycol-containing antifreeze composition, comprising 85-98wt.% propylene glycol, the alkali metallic silicate in an amount so as to prevent corrosion, at least the one basic inorganic compound and water and having improved gelation resistance.
