To provide a method for efficiently producing raw paper little in the generation of missing dots and useful for obtaining coated paper having good gravure printability and high rigidity and used for gravure printing especially by using raw paper produced by the use of a gap former (twin wire) type paper machine.
Raw paper produced from a pulp slurry consisting mainly of pulp is coated with an aqueous solution having a solid concentration of 1-15wt.% and containing a modified starch having a paste viscosity of 5-400mPa.s measured with a B type viscometer (measurement conditions: an aqueous paste having a solid concentration of 25wt.%, temperature: 50°C, rotation rate: 60rpm) as a main component by the use of a liquid film transfer type size press device so as to give a dry weight of 0.1-3.0g/m2 on both the surfaces, and subsequently dried.
