Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a Cu-Zn-Al shape memory alloy having the desired transformation temp. by mixing respective metal powders of Cu, Zn, and Al and respective powders of alloys of the above metals into the prescribed composition and carrying out sintering by means of hot isostatic pressing under specific conditions.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of producing a Cu-Zn-Al shape memory alloy, powders properly selected from respective metal powders of Cu, Zn, and Al and respective alloy powders of Cu-Zn, Cu-Al, and Cu-Zn-Al are mixed so that the prescribed composition is obtained. The resulting mixture is sintered by means of hot isostatic pressing at a temp. as high as ≥900°C, under a pressure as high as ≥1500kgf/cm2, for ≥4hr. By this method, grain growth is inhibited and the evaporation of Zn is prevented, and the shape memory alloy of the desired transformation temp. can be obtained in a short time, and further, by heating the above alloy at about 400-900°C for several minutes and applying plastic working, the strengthening of the material can be attained.
