Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the novel method for producing the sustained release microcapsule containing a physiological substance.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a microcapsule for sustained release of a physiologically active substance from a W/O type emulsion containing a physiologically active substance-containing solution as an inner water phase and a biodegradable polymer-containing solution as an oily phase is characterized by heating the microcapsule, produced by encapsulating the physiologically active substance into the microcapsule with the biodegradable polymer, at a temperature which is higher than the glass transition temperature of the polymer and at which the microcapsules are not adhered to each other. The microcapsule capable of reducing the initial excessive releasing amount of the physiologically active substance, namely low in the initial releasing rate, and releasing the physiologically active substance at a constant rate over a long period from a time just after administration can be produced.
