Title:
PRODUCTION OF SYNTHETIC SILICATE AND ITS USE IN PRODUCTION OF GLASS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3246722
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out the formation of a glass at a relatively low temperature and reduce both the amount of a released volatile gas and the formation of cristobalite by mixing a slaked calcium source with a soluble silicate, further mixing the resultant calcium silicate precursor with a silica source and melting the prepared mixture.
SOLUTION: A calcium source is mixed with water at 10-90°C so as to provide (10-0.35):1 weight ratio and the resultant mixture is then slaked for 1-60min to afford a slaked calcium source. The calcium source may be any kind as far as the source can be slaked with water. The slaked calcium source is then mixed with a soluble silicate which is sodium silicate so as to provide 0.044-2.2 dry weight ratio to afford a calcium silicate precursor represented by the formula Na2O.XSiO2 (X is 0.5-3.75). The resultant calcium silicate precursor, as necessary, is heated at 100-700°C and then mixed with a silica source, thermally melted and vitrified to produce a glass.
