PURPOSE: To obtain a two-layered stainless steel clad steel of superior interface adhesiveness by build-up welding a blank material of the same kind as that of a cladding material or mild steel onto the surfaces of stainless steel core materials to be adhered to the cladding material then insert-casting the core materials with the cladding material.
CONSTITUTION: Slabs or plates 1, 2 of stainless steel are superposed in two sheets by way of a release agent, and the joints on four sides are welded and adhered. The scale of both exposed surfaces of the materials 1, 2 is removed, and carbon steel or the like of the components equivalent to or slightly differing from those of a cladding material is build-up welded 3 to about 2.5W10mm thickness over the entire surface to be brought into contact with the cladding material. The scale of the welded overlay surfaces 3 is removed and an antioxidant is coated thereon. This is set in a mold and molten steel which is a cladding material is charged by a bottom pouring method, whereby the core materials 1, 2 are insert-cast. The cast steel ingot is cut after soaking and blooming, and is hot-rolled after stripping and conditioning, whereby the prescribed two-layered stainless steel is obtained.
