Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce zeolite in high yield at low cost with a small amount of formed waste, heat-treating diatomaceous earth sludge and/or alumina sludge in the presence of an alkali and then subjecting to hydrothermal treatment. CONSTITUTION:Diatomaceous earth sludge and/or alumina sludge is heat-treated in the presence of an alkali such as NaOH to burn an oil component attached to the sludge and to destroy crystal structure of alpha-crystobalite and then the resultant material is mixed with water and an alkali such as NaOH, subjected to hydrothermal treatment at 80-200 deg.C for 2-10 hours, alkali silicate and/or alkali aluminate is extracted to form zeolite crystal, which is filtered, separated and dried.
