PURPOSE: To decrease waste of a press material and to save the time and labor required for additional feeding of the press material by detecting the joint of the press material and blanking the same.

CONSTITUTION: When the welded joint of a press material 11 is transferred by a feeder 12 to a press, a sensor 14 detects the joint. A control device actuates an air cylinder 48 after the intermittent transfer of the press material by the feeder 12 to advance a spacer 47 into the space between a plate 37 and a blanking punch holder 44. The joint part of the material 11 is transferred to the position below a blanking punch 42 and is once stopped. Each punch 32 descends to press the material during the stoppage. Since the spacer 47 is held advanced between the plate 37 and the holder 44, the plate 37 pushes the spacer 47 from above when the plate 37 descends by h2 length. The punch holder 44 and the punch 42 descend further by h1 length and the joint part of the material 11 is blanked by the punch 42. The punch 32 idles by acting in the blanked part and the punches 32 and die 31 are kept free from load.
