PURPOSE: To make a dichroic mirror small in size, and also, to obtain a distinct image by constituting the titled device so that a light beam which has transmitted through plural TN type liquid crystal panels is converged by a prescribed angle by a lens, and thereafter, synthesized by the dichroic mirror.
CONSTITUTION: A light beam from a light source 1 is made incident on condenser lenses 3, 3 directly, or by being reflected by cold mirrors 2, 2, and generated as parallel rays. This parallel rays are reflected by reflecting mirrors 5, 5 through heat insulating filters 4, 4 and supplied to liquid crystal panels 6, 7. A light beam which is transmitted through a polarizing plate 8, the liquid crystal panel 7, and a polarizing plate 9, and a light beam which is transmitted the polarizing plate 8, the liquid crystal panel 6, and the polarizing plate 9 go to light beams of P wave polarization, and this light beam is converged by θ by convex lenses 11, 11 and supplied to a dichroic mirror 10. In such a way, the dichroic mirror 10 can be made small in size, an aperture of a projection lens system and its aberration are made small, and also, an image having a good color purity is obtained.
