Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stabilized purification process for crude methyl methacrylate that is produced via the continuously operable oxidative esterification process.
SOLUTION: In the purification of crude methyl methacrylate that is produced by the oxidative esterification process of a methacrolein and methanol mixture with an oxygen-containing gas, the crude methyl methacrylate is brought into contact with an inorganic acid as an acidic catalyst to hydrolyze methacrolein dimethyl acetal as a by-product, then the aqueous phase layer is removed, the remaining oily phase layer is distilled to remove β-methoxy-iso-butyraldehyde is separated as a by-product.
