NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (X is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl or cyano; Y1 is alkyl, cyanoalkyl, alkoxy, OH, alkenyl substituted by halogen, alkynyl substituted by OH, methylamino, etc.; Y2 is halogen, alkyl or haloalkyl; R is H, alkyl, nitroso, alkenyl, formyl, alkynyl, etc.).
EXAMPLE: 4-Chloro-2-(N-formylanilino)-6-methylpyrimidine.
USE: A germicide for agriculture and horticulture exhibiting excellent germicidal action against various kinds of plant pathogenic germs, especially gray mold.
PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II [Z is alkyl or (substituted) benzyl] is reacted with formanilide in a solvent in the presence of a base to provide the compound expressed by formula I wherein R is formyl, which is then treated with an acid or alkali to afford the compound expressed by formula I, wherein R is H.
