To obtain a high-quality image by eliminating artifacts due to variations in sensitivity among photoelectric conversion devices constituting a line sensor in a radiation image information reading apparatus.
In this radiation image reading method and an apparatus thereof, a sensitivity data acquiring means 32 for acquiring sensitivity data from the outputs of respective photoelectric conversion devices 23a, b and so forth of the line sensor 23 having received a light from a reference light source 28 stores the sensitivity data obtained at an initial state as reference data in a reference data storage means 32. The sensitivity data acquiring means 32 acquires the sensitivity data immediately before reading the image information from a sheet 12. The sensitivity data are compared with the reference data stored in the reference data storage means 32 to obtain sensitivity correction data for correcting the sensitivity variations among the respective devices 23a, b and so forth. The output data, which have been acquired from the respective devices 23a, b and so forth during reading the image information from the sheet 12, are corrected by using the sensitivity correction data.
